Simply
Walk Maadi!
To
maintain your health and fitness - A
book-ready for release
It is heartening to note that preventive medicine is gaining importance among common people than curative approach.Dr.Bimal Chhjar,M.D.,a pioneer cardiologist from Delhi has proved beyond doubt that with regular exercise, proper diet and simple yoga, one can reverse the heart ailments.Reversing any pathological condition in our body,it requires constant but optimum stimulation by strong muscles of our limbs i.e. our legs and hands.Once the bulk of the leg muscles are used at its optimum level for twenty minutes, the fat molecules will start burning and will give energy for the work throughout the day.To reach that optimum level, one has to warm up the body slowly and then cooling down is as important as warming up.
As a matter of fact, one should appreciate the vision of our Bangalore Agenda Task Force for providing ‘walking tracks’ in almost all parks built and maintained by Bangalore Mahanagara Palike.Every big or small park is full of young and old people taking up the exercise of walking. If our country has to remain healthy, individulas have to remain healthy. An individual can stay healthy only when one takes preventive steps like daily exercise, meditation, yoga and proper diet. When I wrote my book “Acupressure and Fitness” in 1996,the fitness part was not read by many people since they concentrated on curing some of the symptoms with acupressure. This time,I thought of writing in detail about exercise for fitness and add on a few acupressure points as ‘single point solutions’ for relieving the pain in case they have those symptoms. The book “Walking for health and fitness” is ready for release.
It is essential to have a thorough check up and fill up the parameters which can be rechecked after one year. I am very sure of positive results with this simple 30 minute walking exercise at least 4 days a week.
Once again I express my hearty thanks to all my ISRO collegues and Acupressure Club members for their suport, encouragement and cooperation to propagate these simple do-it-yourself therapies among common people.
Wishing everyone of you a healthy, happy and prosperous year 2004.
With best wishes

Yoshinobu Kawahara,AustraliaMouth ulcers cured by oil pulling therapy
Dear Dr Bhojraj
Thank you for your quick response.I have been doing oil pulling therapy quite regularly for about 3 months. Initially, I felt my body was getting warmer which I don’t know why. But, subsequently the body temperature was back to normal now. I also felt that my teeth and mouth are much cleaner after the therapy. I used to have mouth ulcers quite regularly at a frequency of about once a month. Now, it seems that whenever the mouth ulcer wants to erupt it quickly subsided and did not go into a full blown ulcer that take one to two weeks to heal.
My bad breath seemed to have disappeared initially but it seemed to have returned recently!
Lastly, so far, have you come across any medical or scientific study on oil pulling therapy? If you’ve, please let me know.
Thank you and regards.

Acupuncture
relieves heel pain
Says
Subbarao, Scientist/Engineer, structures, ISAC - ISRO , Bangalore
Dear Dr Bhojraj
This is to place on record my deep appreciation for the treatment I received for relieving the heel pain. I was suffering from this pain for a long time. Initially I went to our AMO / orthopedic surgeon for consultation and checkup. After X –RAY examination the doctor prescribed pain killers as usual . Not satisfied with such a temporary treatment I consulted Dr. Bhojraj and took acupuncture treatment just once. To my surprise the pain has gradually disappeared and I could restart my regular walking exercise because of the relief I got from the acupuncture treatment.
Acupuncture
relieves heel pain due to muscular sprain
Says
Dr. Sujata Palyam
During my recent visit to Delhi to attend a conference, I just slipped a little while walking with my new sandles. The pain was severe and I could not even move my foot. It looked like a muscular sprain at the heel. I gave myself the acupuncture treatment (Liver 1, Stomach 36, Lung 8 and Large Intestine 4). With this there was great relief from pain in just a matter of minutes. I was able to walk normally. After about 2 hours I slipped again and this time the pain was much more since the muscular sprain was at the same spot. Again I treated myself sitting in a car at the same points. I could notice a slight swelling at my right heel and the pain subsided.
I visited Mr. Agarwal to buy some acupuncture needles the next morning and after noticing the swelling on my ankle, Mr. Agarwal gave me Moxa treatment and the pain and swelling vanised immediately. I was completly normal in walking thereafter and till date I havn’t experienced any painor swelling. My friend from Pune, Mrs. Pathak who was with me in Delhi said “It is much useful to learn simple techniques to cure ourselves so easily. Had you not learnt these techniques, we would have perhpas spent a lot of time and money visiting a doctor in Delhi and could not have participated in the conference usefully.”
Vertigo
cured with acupuncture treatment.
Says
Mrs. Hemavathi, ISAC/ISRO, Bangalore
I had some tension due to my personal problem and one fine morning I had such a dizziness in the head, I could not even get up and go to work. In the evening I consulted the doctor and he prescribed some medicines for a week. Though the medicines gave some relief, I lost total confidence in myself. Working in the office was a herculean task. Then I was referred to a Neurologist at the Manipal Hospital and after the usual tests some medication was prescribed. I took the tablets for a fortnight without much improvement.
As I am working in ISRO Satellite Centre, I knew the acupressure cure given by Dr. Bhojraj for the common ailments to many of my collegues. I wanted to try and approached him for treatment. He checked my pulse on both the wrists and gave acupuncture treatment. To my utter surprise, I felt better immediately and the next day when I woke up, the dizziness spell was not there. My general condition also improved within three days and I had taken another acupuncture treatment within a week.
Dr. Bhojraj showed me a few points to be activated to prevent this type of vertigo problem. Now I am feeling very fine and I thank Dr. Bhojraj for solving my problem. Though I have a slight neck pain, Dr. Bhojraj gave me the confidence back to solve my problem myself. I have reduced my tension and take things as they come.

Director’s Comments : Preventive points
for vertigo are TW-17 (just behind the ear lobe) and pinching between
the eyebrows.
Asthma is a chronic disease like bronchitis and emphysema which causes tightening of chest muscles resulting in breathing difficulties.
An asthma attack or episode is set-off by various environmental or emotional “triggers” such as pollen, fumes, smell and stress. By identifying the triggering factors one can learn to reduce the intensity and frequency of asthma attacks. By balancing the energy levels in an emotion prone person, one can even avoid the problem completely.
Asthma is not a problem with breathing in, but with breathing out. During an asthma episode, muscle spasms and swelling bronchial tissues narrow the lung’s tiny airways which get clogged with excess mucus. Stale air gets trapped in the bottom of the lungs forcing the top part of the lungs to gasp for air. Mild and moderate episodes consist of short incidents of breathlessness and wheezing.
It may occur any time and any place, but most commonly in the early hours of the morning between 3 and 5 am. An episode may pass quickly or last more than a day.Sometimes symptoms recur suddenly and with higher intensity. This ‘second wave’ attack can be more severe and dangerous than the initial episode and may lost for several days.Acupressure points indicated below can be activated by someone else to relieve the attack immediately :
Allergies are the primary cause and 90% of the people with asthma have allergies. The allergies can be pollen, gases/smoke, dust, mould, etc. When inhaled, these substances can trigger the release of histamine and other body chemicals causing an allergic reaction resulting in an asthma episode.Asprin or asprin-like compounds such as ibuprofen and non-steroidal anti-inflamatory drugs can also cause the allergic reactions.Another factor attributed for this problem is the hereditary factors.
Viral infection that usually affect children is a common cause of asthma.Upper respiratory infection may also develop asthma.Air pollution, emotional stress and even exercise may trigger the episodes.
Generally drugs like bronchodialators that help to dilate the lungs’ constricted airways will be prescribed. Oral and inhaler type are available and doctors usually prefer inhaler bronchodialators since they are delivered directly to the lungs.Usually one or two “puffs” relieve the wheezing and chest tightness associated with mild and moderate episodes. If the inhalers are over used, they can cause dangerous side effects such as sudden high blood pressure.
Oral
bronchodialators which include theophylline, metaproterenol, albuterol
and terbutaline are available in tablet form. In severe cases corticosteroids
may be prescribed for short period under medical supervision because of
serious side effects of steroids.
In
immunotherapy, by gradually exposing the body to a certain allergen through
a series of injection, it can help to develop immunity for that allergen.
The reactions may lessen or disappear entirely.
Even if the alternate systems are taken up for total cure, it is better to keep the medications and contact with the physician for an emergency.
In
acupuncture therapy, the root cause of the problem can be removed and the
lungs can be strengthened with treatment.
Allergy
is explained as an altered reaction or hyper-sensitive reaction of the
body to a particular input. Asthma is due to the deficiency of energy in
the lungs and when the drugs supress asthma symptoms, they can show up
on the skin.
Lungs and large intestine are interconnected as dryness energy and sometimes the symptoms the will manifest in large intestine. If the digestion is proper, the absorption of energy circulated through the lungs to mix with pranic energy before it reaches the heart and will not cause any reaction.Otherwise the simple reactions like sneezing, blocked nose, allergic rhinitis will occur to throw out the improperly digested food energy. All these reactions occur to throw out the improperly digested food absorbed by the system. These reactions are caused mainly by the lungs which try hard to purify the system at its own level.
When the reactions are being kept supressed with medicines, after a long time, the lungs will not have its own energy to start the natural reaction to cure the system. Then it will shift to some other vital organ.
The phlegm formation will be static around the broncus and swelling of the cells will cause the asthma attack. Cough is also one of the natural reaction (explosion) to throw out this thick phlegm sticking to the bronchus. After prolonged periods, the allergic factors mentioned in the fore going paragraphs can cause this attack or episode called reversable airway obstruction.
Acupuncture / Acupressure points to strengthen the lungs
Since the dryness energy over manifests in asthma patients, it is advisable to reduce the dryness energy of the lungs and the following formula can be adopted to relieve the asthma attack :
¯ Lu-8 Lu-10 ¯ Lu-5 ¯ P- 5
Reflexology : Massage the throat and lung reflexes.
Yoga : Deep breathing exercise combined with yoga can help to relieve stress and can cure asthma problem in the long run.
