Look for your Inner Guidance

If the body's organs function perfectly, the physical health of the person will be good. One can live longer by maintaining the youth and vitality. For maintaining our physical body, the primary requirements are air, water and food. Deep breathing exercise or Pranayama lengthens ones life because one's life is decided by number of breaths not by number of years according to Yoga texts.

As we all know, plenty of water intake every day is primary requirement for maintaining the chemical balance of the blood. Then the question comes what should be taken as food ? Should I be a vegetarian ? What should I eat? What should I avoid?

Most of the people who fall sick ask the doctors for advise. Every one of the questions above can he answered in several ways. There are experts who can point out the right and wrong diets and research figures to support anything one wishes to prove or disprove. There are experts in every field of science and medicines who can give statistics to prove anything.

There are people in different parts of the world who smoke, drink, eat meat and live one hundred years.Similarly, there are people who do not smoke drink, eat vegetarian food and lived longer years. So it is for you to decide what is good for you. What your instinct says is more important than what the doctor says.

During meditation, one can try to listen to the Divine Voice within your mind.Ask the higher mind for correct advice.Listening to the inner mind or inner voice is the best solution to live longer.

What should I do or should not do will come to your mind unexpectedly sometime hut one must tune the mind to listen to the inner voice. That voice is available only when you live in peaceful surroundings and he in place which reflects the beauty of nature.

Clam down your mind and keep your thoughts in order to listen to His Master’s Voice. Have a high goal for yourself and realize that dream with your inner guidance.

With best wishes

Yoshinobu Kawahara,Australia
Trigeminal Neuralgia. Good relief with Acupuncture technique.

 Says Dr. V. Suitdar, #22, IV Main Road, Kasthuribai Nagar, Adayar,CHENNAI -600020. Phone: (044) 24413908, 24417924.

Mr. Velusamy, aged 60 years, was suffering from Trigeminal Neuralgia for the past 4 years. He had undergone a bypass surgery a couple of years ago and otherwise he was keeping good health with no other chronic ailments. He developed the problem of Trigeminal Neuralgia only after his bypass surgery. His pain would start in the right side below the right eye and pass through his cheek, and stays in the eye brow for quite sometime. The pain would be triggered when doing his morning brushing and washing his face. The moment he touches his face he would feel the pain similar to that of an electrical shock.

When he approached me first, I treated him with some Homeopathic medicines and it only palliated his suffering and could not cure it completely. I started the acupuncture treatment based on the pulse diagnosis and his relief was very fast. The treatment was given for nearly 8 times in a span of four months.

Treatment Given: First  ¯P- 6       K-10  ¯Sp-3 ¯CV (Hotness)

                             Later St-36 ¯Gb-41 LI-1 TW-10

this was given for the first two sittings and then I have treated with single points puncture with the help of A to Z Acupuncture by Sir Anton Jayasurya.

The patient has observed considrable improvement and his medicine intake is gradully reduced.

Lump on the wrist vanished just by pressing a particular point.

Says Mrs. Parminder Jam, 318, 7th ‘C’ Main, HRBR Layout,1st Block, Kalyananagar, Bangalore - 560 043. Tel : 5459 526.

I had a lump on my right wrist which was very painful. I consulted Allopathic doctor who had advised me to undergo a minor surgery to remove that lump, but I was reluctant to undergo surgery. One of my friends, Mrs. Gulati, suggested that I should see Dr. Bhojraj and get acupressure treatment. When I visited Dr. Bhojraj, he pressed a few points on the left hand and asked me to repeat doing it myself for one month. I continued since it was avery simple method. To my surprise, the lump disappeared completely without any medication or surgery and with simple method of pressing certain points regularly.

I thank Dr. Bhojraj for all this and I have full faith in this acupressure technique.

Knee pain leading to Ostosperosis cured by Acupuncture

Says Mrs. Raman Gulati, 213, 5th Cross, RMV 2nd Stage, 2nd Block, Bangalore- 560 094. Tel :3415315/3415802.

I was preparing to go to USA on 18th September 2001 and it was barely two months for my trip to begin when suddenly I had severe pain in my right knee. I ignored it for a few days and then took some pain killers, applied balm, did extra walking but nothing helped. I was told that this was the beginmg of Ostosperosis and the pain would increase with the passage of time. One of my friend, Mrs. Madhu Thukral suggested that I should go to Dr. Bhojraj and get Acupuncture treatment. About 20 days befor my departure to USA, I went to Dr. Bhojraj and had two sessions of acupuncture in one week. It took 15 days in all to get total cure. After the first sitting my pain subsided for 2 days and then it started increasing for about 10 days. Later it started vanishing and on the 15th day, I almost forgot in which knee I had pain. Of course acupuncture should be followed by our regular exercises and self activation of points regularly to keep up the health.

I thank Dr. Bhojraj for giving such wonderful relief from nagging knee pain that too when I was about to take a trip overseas.

SIMPLI WALK MAADI

WALKING FOR HEALTH AND FITNESS
 Dr. H. Bhojraj

The World Health Organization (WHO) defines healthy person as one who is in a state of complete physical, mental, social and spiritual well being and not mere absence of diseases. Health is a holistic concept which involves caring for one’s own self and one's own body and inner resources to the full so that one can get the most out of life. It is a state of total well-being and optimum functioning with absence of disease.

We can meet any challenge and cope with the stress and strains of life when we are healthy. We are in control of our life when we are fit and healthy. A healthy body should have reserves of strength and stamina. The flexible body can keep it active as one grows older. Increased strength helps the person to climb stairs and get around easily. The stamina is good indicator of your health and healthy people keep doing the work throughout the day without getting tired.

How to develop that stamina ? How to develop that stability How to cope with the stress and strains of life ? How to attain good health and fitness ?

The answer for all these questions is walking. Walking (as an exercise) is the best investment one can make for a long healthy life. It is very safe and effective for all age groups, especially for people over forty years of age. Every one should be able to do it, regardless of the state of fitness that they start out from.

Walking briskly four tunes a week for 30 minutes at time, will build cardiovascular and respiratory fitness and protects from a wide range of other health problems. Stretching exercises for 10 minutes a day for 4 to 5 days in a week can build the suppleness in the body and forms a total fitness programme for rest of your life. We eat every day throughout our life and we must also exercise everyday throughout our life. There is no other shortcut to attain good health.

Swimming is a very effective cardiovascular exercise if one can swim for 30 minutes at least three times a week. You need a good swimming pool, which is well maintained. Cycling is also a very good form of exercise if performed at sufficient intensity for several times a week for it to be effective. Stationery cycling is also good but it has low boredom threshold. Aerobic dance is a popular form of exercise but the high impact exercise can injure your feet, ankle, knee and vertebrae. Skipping is a good exercise but not recommended for people above forty.

Jogging is a very good exercise for people below thirty and it has all the potential to give them the exercise high but for people above thirty, it is certainly not recommended. Nearly 60% of the people drop out or burn out within three months after starting their regular jogging programme.

Then what is the best form of exercise for life?

It is walking. It is the scientific walking for 30 minutes atleast four times a week which can keep you healthy and fit when combined with healthy diet, which is very important.

WALKING - THE BEST EXERCISE

Walking has been used as a means of travel and has been valued for its contribution to health and longevity since our evolution as human beings. The babies in cradle start using the leg muscles and hands to gain strength. The strong urge in the child for movement and activity marks the progress for crawling, walking and finally running. Our bodies are built for action and movement. The mechanics of walking as much a part of the human body as the mechanics of respiration and heart function. The body reaches its highest state of physical perfection in the act of walking.

Less physical activity in modern life has taken its toll in the form of various circulation and metabolic disorders among the humans.

WALKING - THE HEALTH AND FITNESS EXERCISE

Walking at a pre-determined heart rate according to one's age becomes aerobic exercise. Aerobic means ‘with oxygen’ and
people misunderstood that aerobic means only movement with music. Walking aerobically causes the body to take in more oxygen from the increased air supply and deliver it to the cells where it is needed to combine with food to produce energy.

The result is an improvement in the vital efficiency of the kings and the whole Cardiovascular system. The total volume of blood pumped actually increases and the heart muscles will become more efficient in its work. The heart muscles will become strong and blood vessels will become more elastic and enlarged. Blood flow to the muscles, especially to the leg muscles is improved and the muscles are strengthened to do more work. Also, joints become more mobile and stronger.

Anaerobic (without air) exercise like squash, tennis, etc. generate energy without oxygen. Anaerobic exercise puts the body into oxygen starvation and causes muscle fatigue, stress and sometimes pain. Rapid heart beat and breathlessness are also typical effects of anaerobic exercise.

The research conducted on aerobic exercises have concluded that aerobic exercises performed for a minimum of 20 minutes, three or four times a week at what is known as your ‘training heart rate’, depending on your age, will give you a good cardiovascular workout and provide lifelong protection against diseases. Walking is the safest way of fitness training. Main health benefits will be seen only when you are consistent in your walking routine and for years and years. It can take three to six months with regular exercise to buildup a strong heart and powerful lungs; and it can take the same period of inactivity to loose it all.

Walking is the exercise most recommended to achieve these long-term aims. It is easy to do and is easy to keep up because it is a continuous rhythmic activity which soon becomes habit forming.

So, get started Let us discuss about your personal conditioning programme, warmup exercises, developing the walking exercise to reach aerobic level and the cooldown process in our next issue.

Knee Pain & Acupuncture Treatment

The knee joints absorb much of the body's weight when we stand, walk or run. Normally, people who are over weight, complain about knee pain, so do people who engage in vigorous sports. Knee pain is also normal complaint of aged people. Whether the pain is due to acute strain or a chronic muscular problem, acupressure helps relieve pain, reduces swelling and increases blood circulation to the knee area.

Pain in the knee accompanied by swelling, redness, warmth and stiffness in the knee and other joints indicate Rheumatoid arthritis.

Chronic pain and stiffness in the knee with limited movement improving with rest indicate Osteo-arthritis. It is more common in people over 50 years and those who over exert their bodies. The cause may be wear and tear on joint tissue from aging, from being over weight or possibly from overuse in work. Normally, conventional therapy is to use analgesics and exercise, and in some cases, replacement of the knee joint.

Acupressure Remedy

Since kidney is the main organ which supplies energy to the knee joints, it is advisable to strengthen the kidney by tonifying K- 10 (coldness point). The acupuncture formula for knee pain is as follows

For acute pain, tonify (urinary) bladder with B-66.

In acupuncture therapy, joint pains are an expression of the weakness of the vital organs. Each vital organ controls a specific joint and when the organ is weakened, the related joint becomes a problem. By strengthening the organs we can cure joint pains. The required energy for knee joints are supplied by the vital organ kidney, and by strengthening the kidney, knee pain can be cured. It strengthens the muscles around the joints. Simple knee exercise also helps to strengthen the muscles in and around the knee.

Upward arrow indicates the acupoint has to be inassagesd clockwise and downward arrow ¯ the anticlockwise direction 7 times each. Repeat the exercise once in a week or 15 days.

OPEN HOUSE MEET ON
Knee Pain,Obesity and Migraine Headache by
Acupressure Club

A Report

The meet was organized on June 1,2003,at the Indian Institute of World Culture, Basavanagudi, to provide a platform for the interaction among specialists of different streams of treatment, practitioners and those who are adopting the acupressure / acupuncture techniques to treat their ailments. This year's discussions were on Knee Pain,Obesity and Migraine Headache. Justice H.G. Balakrishna, Former Judge, Karnataka High Court, presided over the meet and delivered  Presidential Address.

Dr. J. Jayalakshmi, Homoeopath-cum-Acupuncture Specialist of Chennai, was one among the experts to share/narrate  her experience with many ailments/cases  handled by her successfully  and the confidence gained  from all those who have received the treatment and benefited by the drugless method.Dr. H. Bhojraj gave extensive details of these ailments as dealt in the Acupuncture theory ,and also the simplicity and effective adaptability of the theory for those ailments. He further clarified that each and every system has its own limitations and outright rejection of a particular system should not be resorted to.He cited a few cases wherein ailments which were considered incurable in a system were easily and completely cured in another system.Hence he strongly suggested to weigh the advantages and limitations of a particular system and the need to go in for a second opinion, before firming up on a major step to overcome/cure the ailments/diseases. This approach, he said, need to be widely publicized. This Open House was in fact one such measure to make people aware more about advantages of Acupressure/ Acupuncture.Dr. Bhojraj explained  the location of important points (with the slides ) that needs activation to circumvent the problems of knee pain.

POTENT POINTS FOR KNEE PAIN
         Liv(Lv)8
Location : On the inside of the
 knee, where the crease ends
 when the knee is bent.
  K 10
Location :On the inner edge of the knee
crease,in the hollow between two tendons.
      Sp 9
Location :On the inside of the leg,
just below the bulge that is down from the
inside of the knee and under the head of
the shinbone.

Many people shared their own experiences and advantages of use of acupressure to minimize their suffering and the cost effectiveness of acupressure / acupuncture. This was followed by a question and answer session.Dr. Bhojraj gave convincing replies to all the quires and clarifications sought and the participants seemed much satisfied.

In his presidential address,Justice Balakrishna emphasized the need to look for as many alternatives as possible to treat any type of ailment instead of everyone following a particular stream of treatment, namely Allopathic,Ayurvedic,Unani,Siddha,Yoga or Acupressure / Acupuncture. He made a mention the act of treating ailments / diseases has been gaining more importance as commercial activity than as a service to humanity. He was critical about the concept of undue importance to certain streams of medical sciences, while many traditional and proven systems exist, which are more beneficial to our people. He opined that a combination of two or more systems may be more beneficial in treating ailments. He shared his experience of use of simple acupressure techniques for certain common ailments and the wonderful relief he received from this technique.

Earlier, Dr. Sujata Palyam welcomed the guests and participants preceded by an invocation by Ms.Swati.This was followed by a brief report by Shri Palyam Suresh, the Programme Coordinator, of the Diabetes Camp held last year and the responses of those who have undergone treatment under the Migraine Camp this year.He quoted a newspaper report of the results of an experiment conducted in Italy for cure of Migraine headache. The experiment concludes that for Migraine Headache, Acupuncture seems to be the best answer. He also announced the start of the Knee Pain and Obesity Treatment Camp from June 1, 2003, for a period of 6 months.

Mrs. Vijaya Sheshadri gave the vote of thanks to the Chief Guest, all the participants of the day, the team treating /conducting the Camps, the management of the Indian Institute of World Culture, for providing the venue and the print media who have been playing part in publicising the events. The Open House ended with the Universal Prayer.
